General Revelation, So That No One Has An Excuse

Theologians have typically referred to the ways God has chosen to reveal himself to us in two categories: General Revelation and Special Revelation. The word, "revelation", is derived from a Latin word that means, "unveiling". This shows that God has taken the initiative to reveal himself to us and make himself known. For this post, we will focus on General Revelation.

General Revelation is God revealing himself to a general audience with a general message. God reveals himself for all to see in nature throughout history. When people deny this, they must force themselves to deny this as it doesn't come naturally. Our knowledge of God is woven deep inside our minds and our nature. Martin Luther once noted that God made himself known by the wonders of the natural realm.

Natural knowledge of God through General Revelation does have limitations, however. Each person, regardless of their religious beliefs asks questions, either inwardly or outwardly, about their own existence. How did they get here, and what is their purpose? This is where General Revelation ends. While General Revelation is God revealing himself to all mankind, Special Revelation serves a different purpose. We will take a look at this in another post.

God has revealed himself in his creation, so no one has any excuses. The Apostle Paul wrote, "For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse." (Romans 1:19-20) There is no one who can say that God acted unfairly, for numerous reasons, with one being that God has revealed himself to everyone, everywhere. In all countries and all cultures, God has revealed himself through his creation.

"The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge."- Psalm 19:1-2

Welcome to He Has Risen...

Welcome to my new blog, "He Has Risen". This is a blog dedicated to the pursuit of Truth. I believe that Truth is found in Jesus Christ alone. Therefore, I will proclaim and defend the Christian worldview from a position based in Biblical Christianity (aka Calvinist, aka Reformed). I believe salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, and all glory to God alone. Scripture alone is our authority.

I hope that readers will find this blog to be informative, educational, and help others along as they grow in Christ. If that is accomplished, then this blog has been a success.

Let's see where this goes.

"He is not here, for he has risen..."- Matthew 28:6
